Treviso, the Valdobbiadene Valley and the Prosecco hills.

The Prosecco hills wind along the natural amphitheater that opens between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso, in the north-east of Italy. And it is from Treviso, which we reach within 40 minutes, that the journey begins to discover the Prosecco hills, a little Venice with canals formed by the Sile River and a mixture of medieval and renaissance architecture that adorns the historic centre. The centre is enclosed by the city walls and has three gates: Porta Altinia, Porta Santi Quaranta and the beautiful Porta San Tommaso.

  • Itinerary:

  • Visit to Treviso
  • We take the Valdobbiadene’s Wine Road
  • Visit to two vineyards and wine tasting

Leaving Treviso we head north and cross the Piave River to get to Conegliano, home of the Carletti wine school, and the starting point of the Prosecco Road and home to the historic Cerletti Institute. The Institue, founded in 1876, is the oldest Wine School in Italy can be visited by booking the Bottega del Vino a beautiful nineteenth century, frescoed building.

We then take the Wine Road towards Collabrigo, a village that offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills, dotted with vineyards and woods.  We then continue towards Rua di San Pietro di Feletto and its seventeenth-century Camaldolese hermitage and seat of the Town Hall, to get to San Pietro di Feletto where stands the beautiful and elegant Romanesque Pieve di San Pietro of the twelfth century.

The next stretch of road unravels up to Refrontolo between a succession of suggestive views of the Felettano hills, while a short detour can lead to the enchanting Molinetto della Croda, embedded in the rock. Once in Solighetto, we discover the eighteenth-century Villa Brandolini, seat of the Consorzio Tutela del Vino Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene Docg and a place that hosts various cultural events. Our journey continues northwards, immersing ourselves in endless vineyards to reach what is the cru par excellence of the Prosecco Superiore DOCG area, that is the Cartizze area from which the homonymous precious sparkling wine is obtained. From below, heading towards the Follo and then going up towards Santo Stefano, you can admire some of the most beautiful views of the Prosecco Superiore Docg hills, whose uninterrupted vineyards leave room only on the top of the hills to the renowned chestnut woods.

After passing Santo Stefano and San Pietro di Barbozza we finally arrive in Valdobbiadene where we end our outward journey in front of the main square, surrounded by neoclassical buildings. For our return to Conegliano we will choose another road among woods and vineyards, an itinerary that passes by the village of Guia and then continue to Farro, Rolle and Tarzo, a landscape of steep vineyards and woods interspersed with ancient villages, until arrival in Conegliano. Evening return to Venice.
