La Corona delle Delizie in Turin

La Corona delle Delizie (the Crown of Delights) is in fact a set of Residences of the Royal House of Savoy built between the 1500s and the 1700s to create a real crown around the city. This harmonious set of palaces is so unique among the royal dynasties of Europe that it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We set off from the historic centre of Turin and its Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) and head to the from Reggia di Venaria Reale (Palace of Venaria). Created by Carlo Emanuele II as a hunting residence a small village grew around the Palace. We will get to experience all the splendor of the halls and salons of this Palace as well the wonderful gardens.

After coffee and keeping Turin in view, we cross the River Sangone to pass in front of the Castello di Rivoli (Castle of Rivoli), a military stronghold of the eleventh century and then continue to our second stop, the favourite home of the Savoy family and their guests, the splendid Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi (The hunting residence of Stupinigi). This residence featuring the work of the best architects and artists of the 1700s was used for spectacular parties and weddings, and also by Napoleon. An immense park surrounds the residence was the hunting reserve.

Returning to Turin we come to Borgo Castello and the Castello di Moncalieri, a medieval defensive castle that dominates the banks of the river Po’, transformed by the Savoy into one of their Delights. Next to the Valentino Park where we find the Baroque Villa della Regina and the Valentino Castle our last stop.

The imposing Racconigi Castle, a holiday home to the south of the city, surrounded by a beautiful natural oasis and the Ducal Castle of Anglè to the north, towards the Alps, also immersed in a natural paradise are also part of the Crown of Delights.

Also part of the Crown of Delights is the imposing Castle of Racconigi, a holiday home south of the city, surrounded by a beautiful natural oasis and to the north, towards the Alps, the Ducal Castle of Anglè, also immersed in a naturalistic paradise .
