Turim

Departing Turin we head towards Milan through a watery landscape that changes colours with the seasons. For about 40 days in spring, it’s the colour of the sky, reflected in the flooded paddies, populated by flocks of passing birds. In summer, it’s the bright green of the tender seedlings, given life by the wet soil. In autumn, it is the golden hue of the ripe rice, ready for the harvest. In winter, the time of rest, it’s the dark colour of the ploughed furrows discoloured with abandoned stalks. .

Our slow tour begins in Santhià where we will visit ancient farmhouses that were once self-sufficient villages, including a bakery, a mill and schools The magical atmosphere inside these farmhouses seems to transport us into another dimension and you can almost hear the echo of the past and the workers as they perform their manual tasks.

We will visit two of the most beautiful and ancient of these farms, founded by monks in the twelfth century, which gave rise to the rice growing industry of this region. We will taste the products and dishes typical of the Piedmont rice fields. In the afternoon, we will continue our journey through to Novara, the land of herons, nestled between the Sesia Park and the Ticino Park. From hamlets to lakes, country houses and paddy fields, the variety and local traditions of Novara Province make it a land full of fascinating places to visit that never cease to surprise. We arrive in Milan in the late afternoon and we will settle into our accommodation.
