Franciacorta

Leaving Bergamo, we enter a fascinating territory bordering Lake Iseo and in the heart of Lombardy, the hills of Franciacorta. The gentle rolling hills, owe their ancient origins to the retreating glaciers that, over 10,000 years ago, formed the natural amphitheatre where Franciacorta is nestled.

The first vineyards appeared in prehistory, thanks to the area’s unique climate and the soil’s rich mineral content. The cultivation of the vine continued to expand under the Gauls, the Romans, the Lombards, under monks and lords; all united by a single thread, wine. The main grape varieties grown here are Chardonnay for Franciacorta DOCG, Pinot Noir for Millesimati and DOCG Riserva, Pinot Blanc for Cuvee and Erbamat, a native grape variety.

Following the southern shores of Lake Iseo, we will take the Franciacorta wine route visiting wineries and vineyards, talking to winemakers and tasting their high quality products. Along the way, we will discover places of incomparable beauty, abbeys, castles, villas and unbelievable landscapes. In the late afternoon return to Bergamo or overnight in Agriturismo in the middle of the vineyards of Franciacorta.
